His argument was that with these debts that i have are obliterating my credit score anyway and that bankruptcy wouldnt be any worse. Is this true? What does filing bankruptcy do to your credit report and would it damage it more or less than leaving these debts sit as i do not have the money to pay them off at the moment. I was recently terminated from my job in July and am having difficulty finding a new one, but in the meantime I have about $25K in credit card debt and not able to make payments. A credit counselor suggested bankruptcy, but I know the consequences of such action. However, without a job I have no money and I do plan to get one as soon as possible. So please don’t tell me to get a job, I already know that and doing everything I can by applying for many different positions. But given my current situation, is bankruptcy my only choice and is it better to do when you are unemployed or have a job? I have also already tried to contact the creditors to negotiate the terms, but no luck since my credit is in such bad shape. Any suggestions?
I forgot to add something…will filing bankruptcy hurt my chances of getting hired for another job?

My mother and I are in a really bad living situation and she’s almost about 20,000 dollars in debt and I’m sure you all know that people won’t rent to you if you have too much debt. So my question is, can you guys give me a few different sites best for filing bankruptcy? And the easiest and quickest way to do so and on top of that CHEAPEST or no money at all. All help will be appreciated.

I am currently am not living with and about to file for legal separation from my husband. He just told me he is filing bankruptcy, he owns a construction company that’s had a hard year. We are not ready to call it quits yet and divorce, but I want to protect myself. We have no joint accounts and my name is not even on the house he’s living in or associated with his business. Even if we get a legal separation will I still be affected by his bankruptcy? We live in Oregon.

We were just notified that my husband’s student loans are delinquent. Long story. They are private student loans and most of them he took out before I met him. His father is the cosigner. The amount of money we have to pay back is over 100,000.00 and we are already a struggling one-income family. IF we were to look into bankruptcy, would the private loans automatically transfer to the co-signer like it would a mortgage? Or is there another way? I’d appreciate any tips.
